Better Energy joins Triangle Energy Alliance

Better Energy joins the Triangle Energy Alliance (TEA) to support the alliance’s common goal of developing green energy and the fuels of the future in the Triangle Area.

Better Energy shares the vision and ambitions of the TEA collaboration’s joint effort to kickstart the market for green fuels developed on renewable energy and PtX technologies in the ideal Triangle Area location. A vision that can only be fulfilled and powered by vast amounts of clean and sustainable energy.

TEA – a shared vision for green transport

Each of the companies in the Triangle Energy Alliance has a part to play in the complex value chain it takes to convert the heavy transport sector to green energy and green fuels. The alliance’s aim is to seamlessly connect and support the interplay between the different actors.

“We are facing a huge task when we have to convert the Danish energy sector and heavy transport sector to green energy and green fuels. And it is important that many super strong companies stand together. The development is coming. It is inevitable, and those who come first have a huge advantage,” says Christian Motzfeldt, chairman of the board of TEA.

Better Energy for the green fuels of the future

The need for renewable energy from solar and wind will increase sharply in line with the general electrification of society. Moreover, PtX development as the mainstay of the production of green fuels will further catapult the demand for clean and scalable renewable energy.

“We currently have a project portfolio of over 6 GW of new solar power capacity, which we will establish in the coming years. In the Triangle Area, we are working to develop capacity of more than 500 MW of renewable energy,” says Rasmus Lildholdt Kjær, CEO of Better Energy.

“When we develop and build solar parks, we combine our efforts with environmental purposes such as restoring lowlands with carbon-rich soil to wetlands, protecting drinking water and increasing nature and biodiversity in the areas. Our special expertise lies in combining climate and environmental purposes and commercialising and scaling renewable energy technologies. This combination has enormous potential for the green transition and for us as a company, if we, together with the partners in TEA, can utilise electricity production optimally and participate and contribute with solutions for commercial, large-scale production of hydrogen and sustainable aviation fuel,” says Rasmus Lildholdt Kjær.

The right team, timing and infrastructure

Chairman of board in the Triangle Energy Alliance, Christian Motzfeldt is confident that through the integral efforts of the now 24 strong partners in the alliance, the ambitious goal of converting the transport sector to green energy and green fuels is within reach:

“It is about being persistent and ambitious and remaining humble in the face of this huge task. At the same time, all 24 partners recognise that the potential is tremendous. In contrast to importing oil to Denmark, as we have historically done, the energy sector will be an industry that will attract much more local labour, partly because the electricity must be produced locally. On top of that, until now we have looked at green CO2 or surplus heat as a waste product, and now we consider it a resource. Every link in the value chain is extremely important and we will not be successful before we piece them together and bring them up in scale.”

FACTS – Triangle Energy Alliance (TEA):

TEA brings together all key players that support the development of green energy and fuels, especially for heavy transport such as aircraft, ships and cargo. The collaboration has the Triangle Area as a geographical starting point because there is already extensive and ideal infrastructure that supports sector coupling. The partners are infrastructure owners, suppliers, manufacturers, customers, municipalities and consultants.

TEA works to support companies in realising their PtX projects and contributes to sustainable growth and development in the municipalities. TEA establishes knowledge sharing and innovative environments across municipalities and companies to build a strong, coherent value chain for PtX in the Triangle Area, based on the partners’ concrete projects within various PtX tracks and technologies.

The collaboration between the partners takes place across activities, but all have in common that they seek to strengthen synergies where one partner’s core or development area supports or is beneficial to the other partners.

By mapping and clarifying the infrastructural landscape, the partnership will also ensure that the energy-strategic, geographical landscape is considered a resource. In this way, physical locations of facilities are thought through in advance so that there are as many synergies as possible in the energy system of the future with a focus on sector switching as a necessary benchmark.
